nique. I really do have more important things to be doing right now than getting upset (again) over the state of American government and dominant culture, like not failing college, and yet...
>> Congress to declare that Christmas and Christians are important <<
</center>
I wouldn't have thought this would go anywhere, but the House has already passed it. By an overwhelming majority.
At least the highest number of resolution-opposing voters were from my state. Guys, thank you for not making us completely Failfornia. For what little (none) good it did.
I'm pretty sure even the Christians on my flist are just.. headdesking right now. Or especially them.
EDIT: My trusty internet lawyer rightly points out that even bills that get passed like this aren't likely to become lawfully binding. And while still thoroughly disgusting, that's.. something. (Except you know the president would jump through flaming hoops to co-sign this one, and boy I hope this isn't that kind of resolution -_-)
"Recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith.
Whereas Christmas, a holiday of great significance to Americans and many other cultures and nationalities, is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and the world;
Whereas there are approximately 225,000,000 Christians in the United States, making Christianity the religion of over three-fourths of the American population;
Whereas there are approximately 2,000,000,000 Christians throughout the world, making Christianity the largest religion in the world and the religion of about one-third of the world population;
Whereas Christians identify themselves as those who believe in the salvation from sin offered to them through the sacrifice of their savior, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and who, out of gratitude for the gift of salvation, commit themselves to living their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible;
Whereas Christians and Christianity have contributed greatly to the development of western civilization;
Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its roots in Christianity;
Whereas on December 25 of each calendar year, American Christians observe Christmas, the holiday celebrating the birth of their savior, Jesus Christ;
Whereas for Christians, Christmas is celebrated as a recognition of God's redemption, mercy, and Grace; and
Whereas many Christians and non-Christians throughout the United States and the rest of the world, celebrate Christmas as a time to serve others: Now, therefore be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;
(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;
(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;
(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;
(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and
(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world."

CHRISTIANS IN THE UNITED STATES ARE NOT PERSECUTED YOU FUCKING DUMBASSES
YOU CAN'T BE PERSECUTED IF YOU'RE RUNNING THE DAMN COUNTRY
... wait. America also controls us! D: D: D: GASP.
I... What? ......What.
I have so many issues with this it's not even funny. I'll state a few. o__o;
1. Fuck you congress and christianity, Christmas has become cultural. It's a winter festival that got a bit bastardized, but is still capable of being fun.
2. CHURCH AND STATE. CHURCH AND STATE. OH GOD. WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THIS TEXT. Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and pretty much everyone else ever is turning in their grave and crying the dusty tears of dead old dudes.
3. DON'T THEY MOTHERFUCKING HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN SIT AROUND AND SAY 'HURR HURR CHRISTMAS IS IMPORTANT". LIKE YOU KNOW THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM AND POVERTY AND TAXES AND OH YEAH ISN'T THERE A WAR ON OR SOMETHING I HEARD.
....-spaz- /Objection/.
Evidently, we were grossly mistaken when informed, waaay way way back in government classes, of what it was that Congress did.
I thought they were important people who made important decisions.
Apparently, their job is to sit around and beat off all day long.
Whenever I think my faith in American leadership can't get any lower, they pull something like this and my soul dies a little bit more.
I mean, they're ONLY in charge of the whole damn country. :')
Way to brown-nose the conservative voters' block, assholes. I'm just glad I live in not-completely-Failfornia too.

And where is the support for the Flying Spaghetti Monster and His Noodley Appendage, I ask you?! WHERE?
I have a nasty feeling that this, indeed, is For Real. -_-
I'm linking to your post in my LJ, btw. My flist should know about this so we can all go WHUT together.
UHM. LOL.
